Jumpstart to the professional circuit
Since 2018, the Flemish top orchestras have been focusing on providing symphonic repertoire experience to young musicians up to the age of 26. Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen coach and support Youth Orchestra Flanders, in collaboration with the major concert halls and the academic landscape.
Youth Orchestra Flanders is the link between the conservatories and the professional music world, and offers musical promises (15-26 years) a jumpstart in the professional orchestra circuit.
Children and youth
In addition, the youth orchestras of Brussels Philharmonic, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and Flanders Symphony Orchestra are active in Brussels, Antwerp and Ghent: Brussels Young Philharmonic (Brussels), Antwerp Youth Orchestra and SOV Young (Ghent) are three ensembles for younger musicians with a tailored repertoire and a strong connections to their specific area, its musical institution and educational opportunities.
These youth orchestras are aimed at young students between the third grade of art education and third bachelor's degree of conservatory.
Professional coaching
All the ensembles in Jeugdorkesten.Vlaanderen can count on the experience of the Flemish professional orchestras. Thanks to the guidance and coaching of orchestra musicians, our musicians are pushed to develop their artistic skills, their confidence and their knowledge of the repertoire.
Each instrument and section can find the support of the best musicians in the country, taking the chance to improve their network and to get tips and advice on how to be part of something as complex as an orchestra.
Youth Orchestra Flanders
Youth Orchestra Flanders was launched in 2019 as a unique partnership between the major Flemish orchestras. The orchestra offers the up-and-coming generation of young talents a flying start in the professional orchestral circuit. International conductors, international soloists and the best venues in Belgium. YOF is where you make a profession out of your passion.
Antwerps Jeugdorkest
Antwerp Symphony Orchestra established Antwerps Jeugdorkest at the end of 2018, in collaboration with Amaj and UAntwerpen. This symphonic youth orchestra, coached by musicians from the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, targets young people up to 26 years of age and offers them the chance to gain orchestral experience within a professional framework. Each season, Antwerps Jeugdorkest comes together for two projects.
Brussels Young Philharmonic
Brussels Young Philharmonic is a symphonic youth orchestra by and for young people between 15 and 26 years old. It offers the chance to gain orchestral experience in a symphonic setting with professional musicians of Brussels Philharmonic. Brussels Young Philharmonic stands for the pleasure of making music together and developing your talent in a positive and safe environment. In cooperation with educational partners, Brussels Young Philharmonic looks for fun programmes and challenging opportunities in Brussels and Vlaams-Brabant.
SOV Young
SOV Young is the symphonic youth orchestra at Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, by and for young people aged 14 to 20, based in Ghent. Musicians from Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen coach the orchestra along their musical projects. The final session is always an open concert. The programme includes a solid repertoire with a contemporary twist. Artistic direction is in the hands of Martijn Dendievel. SOV Young is operated in collaboration with Royal Conservatory Ghent.
